| David Lindsey and others
requested that the Rev. David McClure come to Stewart's Crossing to preach
and minister to the settlers. They each pledged sums of money to
procure Rev. McClure's services. Rev. McClure had originally been in
the Fort Pitt area to preach to the Indians, who were not receptive to his
ministering. The Rev. McClure did stay in the area for about a year, and
he included Stewart's Crossing in his circuit of five local communities in
which he preached.
Rev. David McClure's diary is available on microfilm at the Family
History Library (#962780)
