Zachariah Connell was the grandson of Sarah Lindsey, b. ca. 1682, Charles County, Maryland

Sarah Lindsey was a servant of John Williams.  In 1700, it was reported to the court of Charles County that Sarah had given birth to an illegitimate child.  Sarah subsequently married John Williams.  Sarah and John had a daughter named Anne Williams who married James Connell.  Anne and James were the parents of Zachariah Connell, who later lived next to David Lindsey in present day Connellsville, Pennsylvania.

June 1700 - The Grand Jury by information of Joseph Harrison [probably the Constable for the Hundred in which Sarah resided] presents Sarah Lindsey living with John Williams of Nanjemy for having a bastard child.

Comment: From seeing other records of this type, the meaning is that Sarah was living with John Williams because she was his servant, and not particularly because they were living together incontinently.

Nov. 12, 1700 - Sarah Lindsey appears and alleges she was sick. Further prosecution of the bond is stopped. The Court doth accept of "Mr." [hard to read; may say "Mrs."] Stone's proffer for paying her fine and fees.

Comment: The most usual reason for stopping the prosecution of a woman for having an illegitimate child is that she has married.

John Williams of CC, planter, on Apr 10, 1709, by his will, devised to his wife, Sarah, 100 acres bounded by the south side of Lausons Marsh, during her natural life, and after her death, to his son, John Williams. The son, John Williams; died before attaining his full age, leaving Ann, his sister of the whole blood in the will named, who married Jas Connell, party to these presents, his heir. Now this deed, made May 26, 1740 witnesses that James Connell of St Mary's County, planter, & Anne, his wife, for 6000 lbs tobacco & 5 £, sell to John Dunbar of the same county, Gent the tract of 100 acres in sd will. Signed - James Connell, Ann (X her mark) Connell. Wit - Robt Yates, Wm Penn.
Then came John Hanson before me, a CC JP, and made oath that some small time before the death of his father, Mr. Samuel Hanson, late Clerk of CC, Mr. John Dunbar lodged with him, sd Samuel, a deed from James Connell and Ann, his wife, to be recorded, but at the same time requested that it not be recorded until after the alienation money was paid_ Dunbar, after the death of the late Clerk & after the removal of the records & all other papers relating to sd office, came to this deponent, he being then Deputy Clerk to Mr. Edmd Porteus & inquired for the aforesd deed, which deed John Hanson declares he looked for but could not find. Nor was sd deed, to his knowledge, found until some time limited by the Act of Assembly for recording deeds was expired. Signed - William Eilbeck.

Lawson's Marsh, which was the location of the land that John Williams bequeathed to his wife, Sarah Lindsey Williams, is located  near Douglas Point, noted on this 1673 map of the Charles Co., Maryland area drawn by Augustine Hermann.

Charles County Maryland Land Record Liber Z#2
John Williams, late of CC, planter, on Apr 10, 1709, made his will, in which he devised to his wife, Sarah Williams, 100 acres of land called Frankum, bounded by the south side of Lawsons Marsh, during her natural life and after her death, to his son, John Williams. Said Sarah, after the making of the will, died, and sd John Williams, the devisee, also died, a minor without issue, whereby the land fell to Anne Williams, daughter of the testator and sister of the whole blood to sd John Williams, the devisee. Anne Williams, after the death of her brother and arriving to full age, married James Connell. Sd James and Anne Connell, for 6000 lbs tobacco, by CC deed dated Apr 17, 1740, conveyed the land to John Dunbarr (Dunbarr) of St Mary's county, who delivered the deed to Mr. Samuel Hanson, CC Clerk, to be recorded, but sd Hanson died immediately after the delivery of sd deed, whereby sd deed failed to be recorded in the time limited by Act of Assembly for recording conveyances, by which means sd Dunbarr lost the effect of the purchase. Elizabeth Hanson, widow of sd Samuel Hanson, agreed to pay said Dunbarr the purchase money afd. Sd Dunbarr, by deed dated Jan 29, 1745[/6] confirmed to sd Elizabeth all his right to the land afd. Said Eliza. Hanson, in 1745, at the first session of Assembly held that year, preferred her petition, praying that the deed afd from James Connell and wife to John Dunbarr might be made in as full force as if it had been recorded in time. The Assembly enacted that sd deed should be recorded in CC and was good in law as if it had been recorded in time. Now this deed, made Mar 17, 1745[/6] from sd Elizabeth Hanson to John Stromatt of CC, planter, witnesses that sd Elizabeth Hanson, for 6253 lbs tobacco and 9 £ and for divers other good causes, sells to Stromatt all her right to the land above-mentioned. signed - Elizabeth (EH her mark) Hanson. Wit - Geo Dent, Walter Hanson.

Note that the tract of land that John Williams willed to Sarah had originally belonged to James Lindsey:

"The Osborne Question", by A. Russell Slagle.  Page 118
:

The author offered no proof that Sarah Lindsey Williams was a daughter of Edmond Lindsey and Abigail Dent.  Edmond Lindsey was born ca. 1766, and it does not seem possible that he could have been Sarah's father.  Edmond would have been a teenager when Sarah was born.  Sarah was probably born ca. 1682, which would make her about 27 when she married Thomas Osborn.
